Department of Biomedical Engineering Interdisciplinary Program (MS, PhD) in the Graduate School and Department of Biomedical Engineering of College of Medicine, Chungnam National University has been established in 1995 and affiliated to the Institute of Biomedical Engineering has been established in 1998. In order to commercialize the Biomedical Engineering research results, BioOptics company was founded in 2000 and working for development of medical instrument and sales this products to domestic and to world.

What is Biomedical Engineering(BME)? 

Biomedical Engineering is to understand the phenomenon of the human anatomy and physiology, using the engineering method and computerized control method we can measure the physiological phenomena which occur diverse physiological phenomena in vivo, and through scientific analysis and interpretation we research the accurate of diagnosis and treatment for the disease.  

Biomedical Engineering is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology. This field seeks to close the gap between engineering and medicine: It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to improve healthcare diagnosis, monitoring and therapy.

 Biomedical engineering has only recently emerged as its own discipline, compared to many other engineering fields. Such an evolution is common as a new field transitions from being an interdisciplinary specialization among already-established fields, to being considered a field in itself. Much of the work in biomedical engineering consists of research and development, spanning a broad array of subfields. Prominent biomedical engineering applications include the development of photodynamic therapy, various diagnostic and therapeutic optical instrument devices ranging from medical laser to optical molecular imaging, optical tomograpy such as OCT(optical Coherence Tomograpy), Heterodyning Imaging, and pharmaceutical druge as a photosensitizer and therapeutic biologicals.

What Does an Biomedical Engineer Do? 

A biomedical engineer uses traditional engineering expertise to analyze and solve problems in biology and medicine, providing an overall enhancement of health care. Students choose biomedical engineering to be of service to people and to partake of the excitement of working with living systems. Biomedical engineers work closely with traditional engineers, basic scientists, and health care professionals including physicians, nurses and technicians, and may be called upon in a wide range of capacities: to design instruments and devices, to provide knowledge for developing new procedures or advancing scientific research, or to conduct research needed to solve clinical problems.

 Excellent graduate students go into the excellent medical device companies, universities and research institutions engaged in research and development, employment and have worked as a biomedical expert. It also specializes in medical devices to be addressed are employed in hospitals and related companies.
